On March 19, 2025, Mr ODA Rotyaro, Deputy country Director, JICA Ghana and a JICA delegation, called on the Ag Chief Executive of GHA, surv. Mallam Issah Ishak to update and discuss JICA’s current projects and portfolio in Ghana.
The JICA representatives also held discussions on the Project for the construction of a New Bridge across the Volta River on the Eastern corridor (Between Volivo and Dufor Adidome). The team reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the project, particularly in areas of technical expertise, funding, and capacity building. Key amongst them is the funding gap which JICA has expressed commitment to addressing. The participants also underscored the need for GHA to finalize an agreement with the recommended bidder, IHI Infrastructure Systems.
The discussions also covered the terms of financial support and what negotiations must be done again to cater for the delays and necessary approvals.

The Meeting concluded with an agreement to fast-track pending approvals and technical reviews. Both organisations reiterated their commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the Volivo Bridge, emphasizing the projects significance in improving connectivity and economic development in Ghana.

The Ag. Chief Executive of GHA, suggested a follow-up meeting to be scheduled in 2 weeks’ time to assess progress made and address emerging challenges.
Mr. ODA Rotyaro was accompanied by Mr. Morishita Keisuke, Representative JICA Ghana, Ms. Maeda Yu, Deputy Director in charge of Ghana, Africa department JICA headquarters and Mr. Joshua B. Mabe, principal program specialist, JICA Ghana.
