PRE-COMMENCEMENT MEETING WITH CONSULTANTS AND CONTRACTORS, ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF FOUR (4) MAJOR BYPASSES ON THE ACCRA – KUMASI CORRIDOR

The Hon Minister for Roads and Highways (MRH), together with the Chief Director of the Ministry, officials of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), and the project consultants and contractors, convened on Thursday, 1st June 2023 for a pre-commencement meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss plans for a major dualization of the Accra - Kumasi highway construction project, including timelines, responsibilities, and budgets, in preparation for the project's kick-off.

 

The upcoming project which is set to begin later next month focuses on improving safety and traffic flow on the N6 through the construction of four (4) bypasses. These bypasses include the 11.6 km Osino bypass, the 6.1 km Anyinam bypass, the 10.6 km Enyiresi bypass, and the 13.5 km Konongo bypass.

 

Explaining his expectations to the contractors, the Hon. Minister, Kwasi Amoako Attah (MP), stressed the need to keep the public informed about project developments. "Our goal is to ensure a smooth and efficient project that minimizes delays for commuters and maximizes safety on this heavily travelled route," he said.

The Hon Minister added that as a priority project of the government, he wished that, by the end of 2024, a significant amount of construction work should have been done.

The Chief Director of MRH, Alhaji Dr. Abass Awolo, used the occasion to stress on contractors’ mobilization and the government’s financial arrangements as well as the role of MRH in facilitating the payment of advance mobilization fees.

On his part, Ing. Christian Nti, stated that his outfit was committed to working together with the consultants to deliver a safe and high-quality project. "This project requires a significant amount of coordination and collaboration between all parties involved," said the Chief Executive of GHA.”

The Contractors and Consultants present at the meeting made submissions regarding the management of the project, including logistics for materials, personnel, and equipment, as well as strategies for ensuring worker safety. Additionally, they provided inputs on some technical aspects of the project, such as right of way (ROW) and road realignment.

Overall, the pre-commencement meeting was deemed a success by all parties involved, setting the foundation for a productive and successful project. The reconstruction of the highway is expected to effectively alleviate vehicular traffic and provide substantial relief to commuters.
