The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Roads and Highways, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, hosted an interactive session with a 54-member delegation from Burkina Faso’s National School of Public Works.

he session, which forms part of a five-day technical study visit to Ghana aimed at exposing the delegation to Ghana’s road infrastructure systems and institutional frameworks, with particular focus on GHA’s project delivery mechanisms and materials quality assurance processes.

Welcoming the delegation on behalf of Management, the Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Cecil Nii Obodai Wentum, expressed the Authority's pleasure in hosting the students and reaffirmed GHA's commitment to promoting knowledge exchange and strengthening regional cooperation in infrastructure development.

The Coordinator of the Burkina Faso delegation, Mr. Mari Ouedraogo, expressed appreciation to the Ghana Highway Authority for the warm reception and the opportunity to gain practical insights into Ghana's road sector. He noted that the visit forms part of an annual academic exchange programme designed to bridge classroom learning with practical industry experience while fostering collaboration between the two institutions.

he Director of Road Maintenance, Ing. Eric Odosu, in his submission delivered an in-depth presentation on GHA's organizational structure, statutory mandate, and operational responsibilities, highlighting its role in the development, maintenance, and management of Ghana's 16,000-kilometre trunk road network. The delegation was also taken through the Authority's funding arrangements, governance and accountability mechanisms, and the Government's ongoing US$10 billion, four-year road and bridge infrastructure expansion programme.

The delegation later toured the Authority’s Central Materials Laboratory at Elwak, Accra, and the Accra-Tema Motorway & Extensions Project to gain practical exposure to road construction. At the laboratory, the delegation was taken through modern equipment and key materials testing procedures used in ensuring the quality and durability of road constructions.

The delegation made their last stop at the Accra-Tema Motorway and Extensions project. At the site, a team from Maripoma Enterprise Limited (MEL) led by Ing. Ben Sackey, the contractor for the project, briefed the students on the project’s design, construction progress, contract administration, and engineering processes, highlighting its 48% completion status.

The visit underscores the Ghana Highway Authority's commitment to advancing professional knowledge, promoting the exchange of technical expertise, and strengthening partnerships with sister institutions across the West African sub-region.

Throughout the tour, the students actively engaged with engineers, sought practical insights into road and bridge construction, and expressed appreciation for the knowledge shared.

In attendance were the Deputy Chief Executive (Admin.) Ing. Paul Duah, Director of Maintenance, Ing. Eric Odosu, Director of Finance, Mr. Eric Ofori Amanfo, Esq, Ag. Director of Contracts, Nana Pomaa Karikari, and Ag. Director of Public Affairs, Cecil Nii Obodai Wentum amongst other members of staff.
