The newly appointed United Nations Office for Project Service (UNOPS) Deputy Regional Director for Africa, Dalila Moreira on Tuesday, 22nd of November, 2022 paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive and Management of the Ghana Highway Authority at the head office in Accra. The purpose of the visit was to afford Ing. Dalila Moreira the opportunity to introduce herself to the Authority after assuming office, and to discuss issues of mutual interest.
Ing. Christian Nti, the Ag. Chief Executive of GHA, expressed the Authority’s delight to collaborate with UNOPS on upcoming projects. He added that GHA is open to receiving support from all stakeholders.
Detailing the core mandate of the agency, Mrs. Ifeoma Charles-Monwuba, a UNOPS Director/Representative noted that UNOPS is well-positioned to implement infrastructure and procurement projects and also offer training services in the area of environmental health and safety, labour-based approaches, and capacity building which the Authority can leverage on to equip staff and improve productivity. The Director used the occasion to express the agency’s gratitude for the successful partnership on previous projects.
On her part, Ing. Dalila Moreira reiterated the willingness of UNOPS to support the Authority, especially in the area of procurement. She also stated that the Authority stands to benefit financially as the agency’s main focus as a cost recovery outfit is to manage cost and not to maximize profit, thus they only charge administrative fees. She further emphasized UNOPS’s readiness to support GHA’s existing skill set in order to remain competitive.
Ing. Christian Nti, on behalf of the Authority, congratulated Ing Moreira on her appointment to the position of Deputy Regional Director and also expressed interest in their training programs, and assured them of further engagements.
