INAUGURATION OF ASPHALTIC VOICES- GHA

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), has on the 25th   of November, 2022 inaugurated its maiden choir, the Asphaltic voices, and its committee members. The programme, which took place at the “Well”, GHA saw representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highway (MRH) and its agencies, the Departments of Urban and Feeder Roads.

The president of the committee and Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Cecil Nii Obodai Wentum, in his opening remarks expressed his excitement at the choir’s growth in the short period of its formation. He stated that the idea of the choir, Asphaltic voices, was birthed less than two months ago, during the inauguration of the GHA Christian fellowship.

“It started with a membership of four (4) but has grown into a bigger choir that can compete with other international choirs across the globe,” he said.

Finally, he extended an invitation to individuals from the Departments of Urban and Feeder Roads, and other agencies who fall under MRH to join the choir since it is open to all who work in the sector.

The Chief Director at the MRH, Dr. Abass Awolu, who was the Special Guest for the occasion, in his inaugural speech stated that the birth of the choir was a laudable idea. He added that it was important for the Ministry to have a choir that can be called upon to perform during the Ministry’s events instead of outsourcing to others. This, he said, would reduce the expenses of the Ministry and increase its revenue base when the choir is patronized by the public to perform at events. Ing. Abass Awolu further commended the executives for their efforts in mobilizing the members while encouraging them to work together in unity to achieve their goals.

On his part, the Chief Executive of GHA, Ing Christian Nti, expressed delight with the formation of the choir and pledged the Authority’s support to the group. He noted that the Authority was ready to provide state-of-the-art musical instruments for the choir to aid in their activities.

The Director of Policy and Planning for MRH, Ing. Mrs. Rita Ohene-Safo, a patron of the choir giving the concluding remarks, congratulated the members of the choir for availing themselves and urged the executives not to hesitate to call on the patrons if they need further assistance and directional support.
